Apprenticeship with Jesus

Our HVBC purpose statement reminds us that our church exists ‘to make disciples, beginning with unreached people, ending with passionate, mature followers of Jesus.’ It is important that we answer the question: How are people moving from ‘unreached’, to ‘passionate, mature followers of Jesus’? Such an incredible transformation does not happen by accident. While this journey of spiritual maturity can happen through a variety of ways in our church, and often does, we believe that discipleship should not be a by-product of what we do, but at the very core of who we are.

Discipleship is about moving from believing in Jesus to following Jesus. It is about taking the words of Jesus seriously:

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age .”
— Matthew 28:19-20

We are committed to providing opportunities and resources to empower the people of HVBC to be disciple-making-disciples, to live a lifestyle that manifests the power of the Kingdom of God both through proclamation and demonstration.
